About Us

We are the Mighty Milestone Makos. 

We are a Division-3 Swim Team in the Greater Richmond Aquatic League (GRAL).

Coaching Staff

Karen Vary (Head Coach) comes to us from North Carolina and has relocated to Mechanicsville. Her school teaching background with Henrico County Public Schools will prove to be beneficial to the instruction and management of the swim team. Karen served as a Head Coach for a club in N.C. and also was a lifeguard and swim instructor. Currently Karen is working for the Y.M.C.A. providing swim lessons. She is C.P.R. and lifeguard certified.

Brent Kintzer grew up in the Mechanicsville area. He swam for Kings Charter, Burkwood and Mary Washington College . Currently Brent is the Assistant Coach at Carnegie Mellon University . Brent has also served as Assistant Coach for Randolph Macon College and the University of Mary Washington . Brent will be returning home for the summer to visit with family and serve as the Assistant Coach for the Makos.

Josh Pidcoe is returning to the Makos as an Assistant Coach. Josh is currently a student at James Madison University . Josh has also been employed as a lifeguard. We are excited to have Josh return to the Mako team. His coaching ability and team spirit are exceptional. Josh ran for the Atlee Track Team in high school and now enjoys participating on the Madison Triathlon Club.

Emily Hesse is returning as the Jr. Assistant Coach. Emily is in her senior year at Atlee High School . She has participated on the Atlee Cross Country and Track Teams. Emily also swam for Milestone and Burkwood. We are pleased to have Emily returning to the Mako team. Her experience and knowledge of the kids and the program are invaluable.
